Fact sheet F7 · Results and retakes
When do CWI results come, and what if you fail a part?
CWI exam results come in two steps. Prometric emails a preliminary score within two hours of finishing Part A or Part C, and the AWS score letter follows about two to four weeks after your last part (AWS CWI Examination User Guide, September 2026, checked October 2026).

F7.1From hand-in to credential
Part B day
No score at the site
Part B is scored by AWS. Its result comes on the consolidated letter with Parts A and C.
Within 2 hours
Prometric preliminary report
Emailed after Part A and again after Part C. It's preliminary until AWS confirms.
About 2 to 4 weeks
AWS score letter
Every part score plus the composite. A letter with a miss on it also carries retest guidance.
About 6 to 8 weeks later
Credential issued
AWS issues your serialized CWI number, certificate and wallet card once scores are confirmed.
F7.2When a part comes back short
A fail letter after months of study is a hard email to open. Read it through anyway, because the part scores on it decide how much of the exam you go back for.
With a composite of 72% or more, you retake only the part that missed (AWS QC1:2016-AMD1, clause 6.2.3, checked October 2026). The letter's retest guidance spells out what applies to you. A missed Part C goes again on the same code you chose the first time. How the line is drawn is on the passing score page.
Use the part scores to aim the next round. Put your hours where the number was lowest; the CWI study plan puts the clauses with the biggest Part A minimums first, over 4, 8 or 12 weeks. Why one part can sink an otherwise solid attempt is covered in is the CWI exam hard.
Exam failures can't be appealed. Part B is the one exception with a remedy: you can request a manual rescore for a fee.
F7.3Retest rules
| Retest | Extra training | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| First | None | Within 3 years of your original test date |
| Second | 40 hours for all parts; 16 hours for one or two parts | Training finished before you apply |
| Third | Same as the second | The last one inside the 3-year window |
| Any Part C retest | As above | Same code as your original exam |
F7.4After the letter
Is the Prometric score final?
No. It's a preliminary report. The AWS score letter carries the final scores (AWS CWI Examination User Guide, September 2026, checked October 2026).
Can I appeal a failed part?
No. Eligibility decisions and exam failures are final under AWS policy. A Part B rescore can be requested for a fee.
When does the certification start?
On the first of the month after the exam (AWS QC1:2016-AMD1, clause 15.3, checked October 2026). The certificate and card follow about six to eight weeks after scores are confirmed. From there you renew at years 3 and 6; see CWI renewal.
